Caption: Mistletoe (family Viscaceae) growing on a tree. Mistletoe is a parasitic evergreen shrub. It does not have roots, instead tendrils grow into the branches of the host plant to absorb water and minerals. Mistletoe is not completely dependent on its host, as it is able to photosynthesis to produce its own energy. The translucent white berries appear from September to January and contain a sticky pulp surrounding the seeds.
