Caption: Epilepsy treatment. Image 1 of 2. Neurocybernetic prosthesis (NCP) equipment for the control of epilepsy. Epilepsy is a disorder of brain function in which the patient suffers seizures. The NCP implant works by stimulating the vagus nerve to diminish the frequency of epileptic attacks. A pacemaker-like control unit (silver, round) is implanted in the patient's chest beneath the collar bone. This is connected to two electrodes, which are placed around the vagus nerve at neck level. This pack contains the drugs and tools necessary for the insertion of the NCP prosthesis. See M725/376 for an image of the pacemaker being inserted.
