Caption: Seborrhoeic wart treatment. Image 1 of 3. This seborrhoeic wart is on the nose of a 72-year-old man. Also known as seborrhoeic keratosis and basal cell papilloma, this is a common benign skin tumour. It arises from the epidermal layer of the skin, and is caused by overproduction of the skin protein keratin. This type of wart is often found in the elderly. It is harmless, but may be removed for cosmetic reasons. For a sequence showing the treatment of this wart by cryotherapy, see images M729/037-039.
