Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Seborrhoeic wart treatment. Image 3 of 3. This is 2 weeks after cryotherapy where liquid nitrogen was used to freeze a seborrhoeic wart on the nose of a 72-year-old man. A blister formed around the dead wart tissue as the area healed. Eventually the dead tissue dropped off, leaving the new skin seen here. Some remnants of the wart still remain, but the cosmetic appearance is greatly improved. Also known as seborrhoeic keratosis and basal cell papilloma, this is a common benign skin tumour. It is caused by overproduction of the skin protein keratin. This harmless type of wart is often found in the elderly. For a sequence showing cryotherapy treatment of this wart, see images M729/037-039.
