Caption: Bach remedies. A therapist applies Bach remedies to a woman during a meditation session. The remedies are seen in a rack of small tubes (at lower centre). Bach remedies were developed by Dr Edward Bach (1886-1936) who postulated that illness was caused by a disharmony between the soul and personality and that diseases have both a spiritual and physical nature. Bach proposed that the spiritual aspect of disease should be treated before any physical treatment and developed 38 remedies adapted to specific character properties and moods. The remedies are prepared from plant extracts. Photographed at the Yoga Health Centre, Leiden, the Netherlands.
