Caption: Willow wood. Longitudinal section through the wood of a willow tree (Salix sp. ). At top is the bark (dark brown) and below this is the cork tissue (yellow) of the bark. The cambium is a thin brown line at centre. Above the cambium is a band of phloem cells (light brown), and below the cambium is a layer of tracheid (xylem) cells. Willow tree wood is used as a fuel and in cricket bats.
