Caption: RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY, PLEASE CONTACT SPL FOR FURTHER DETAILS. Anatomy of a pregnant woman. Computer artwork of a heavily pregnant woman lying down. The foetus is enclosed in an amniotic sac in the uterus (womb). The placenta, which provides oxygen and nutrients to the foetus, is at upper centre, attached to the wall of the uterus. The foetus' head is positioned within the mother's pelvis. The pelvic bone (yellow) is at lower right. The striated skeletal muscles, which are under direct conscious control, of the mother's arm, legs and torso are shown. Also seen are the smooth muscles of the intestines (to left of uterus) and uterus wall, which contract without conscious control.
