Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Child and thermometer. Boy with a thermometer in his mouth so that his temperature can be taken. A thermometer consists of a bulb containing mercury connected to a tube with a temperature scale along it. When the bulb end of the thermometer is placed in the mouth, the mercury warms up and expands into the tube. The degree of expansion depends on the temperature of the patient. Temperature is a good indicator of health. Normal body temperature is 37 degrees celsius but this can vary due to infection, organ disorders and overexposure to heat or cold.
