Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Weight measurement. A health visitor's hand uses specially adapted, digital electronic scales to weigh a one month old baby girl during a routine home visit. Weighing a baby is one of several physical tests a health visitor will carry out to check the physical development of babies and children. In babies regular weight gain is more important than the amount of weight gained. When a baby is born, there is a slight weight loss for the first ten days or so. After this, a baby will gain about 28 grams (1 ounce) per day for the next three months. After this, weight gain slows down a little.
