Caption: Water on leaves. Close-up of a drop of rain in the centre of a whorl of lupin leaves. The lupin (Lupinus polyphyllus) has waxy leaves with a covering of fine hairs. This causes the water droplets to accumulate at the centre of the whorl. Some smaller droplets are trapped in the fine hairs on the leaves. Leaves are waxy in certain plants to help regulate the flow of water in and out of the leaf body.
