Caption: Dutchman's breeches leaves. Drops of water collected on a leaf of the Dutchman's breeches or staggerweed plants (Dicentra cucullaria). This perennial herb is native to North America. It has finely-cut, fern-like leaves and flowers that resemble a pair of breeches. The leaves and flower contain a morphine-like poison called cucullarine which causes animals feeding on the leaves to stagger, hence the name staggerweed. Photographed at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Michigan, USA
