Leaf veins

Leaf veins

Rights Managed

Leaf veins. Veins are part of the vascular system that transports food and water around the leaf. The midrib is the main vein running down the centre of the leaf (top left to bottom right), from which other smaller veins branch off. Leaves are the main energy-gathering organs of a plant. They trap the energy of sunlight by the process of photosynthesis.
