Ovarian cyst. Laparoscope (endoscope) view inside a woman's abdomen showing a follicular cyst of the ovary. At centre left is the rounded enlarged cyst. The uterus can be seen partly obscured at upper right, with a fallopian tube passing above the cyst. Ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled swelling in the ovary, in this case occurring in an egg- producing follicle. Often there are no symptoms, but a large cyst can cause abdominal discomfort & menstrual irregularities. Most ovarian cysts are non-cancerous. Simple thin-walled cysts often go away on their own; a well-developed or complex cyst may require surgical removal.
