Close up of ragged multiparous cervix

Close up of ragged multiparous cervix

Rights Managed

Multiparous cervix. Close-up of a multiparous cervix (at centre, pink) in a woman who has given birth to many children. The cervix is usually doughnut shaped when viewed with a speculum (an instrument introduced into the vagina to hold the vaginal walls apart). Here, the cervix is clover shaped and a healthy dark pink colour. The lobes are part of the uterine sphincter which holds the baby in the womb during pregnancy. After multiple births (multiparous), there has been successive damage to the cervix during delivery and it now has a ragged appearance.
