Caption: Granulosa tumour cells in ovary. Coloured Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of cells of a granulosa cell tumour in the human ovary. These tumours are generally benign (non-cancerous), but a minority tend to recur. At top is an egg cavity (follicular antrum) which this tumour lines. The tumour cells are epithelial cells (green) of two types: large numbers with rounded apex and microvilli (white); ciliated cells with hair-like cilia (yellow). The cell bases lie in collagen fibres (brown) of the basal lamina forming a network. A granulosa cell tumour secretes oestrogen hormone. Magnification: x1,100 at 6x7cm size. x1,460 at 4x5".
