Caption: Cervical cells. Light micrograph of normal cells in a cervical smear. At right are the squamous epithelial cells which make up the outer wall of the cervix. These cells are stained pink and blue and have large amounts of cytoplasm. At left are the endocervical cells which are normally found located under the squamous cells on the cervical wall. Cervical smears are examined to alert a doctor to the cellular changes associated with the development of cervical infection or cancer. Papanicolaou stained cells. Magnification: x200 at 35mm size.
