Caption: Cervical adenocarcinoma. Light micrograph of a cervical smear, showing squamous epithelial cells affected by adenocarcinoma. Cancerous cells are seen at centre, engulfed by attacking white blood cells (neutrophils, black). The cancerous cells are of an irregular shape with enlarged nuclei (purple). Around the cancerous cells, normal epithelial cells are seen stained pink and blue. Adenocarcinoma is a rare malignant epithelial tumour arising from glandular structures. The cause of this cancer is unknown. Treatments for cervical cancer range from laser-therapy to radical surgery to remove the affected area. Papa- nicolaou stain. Magnification: x300 at 35mm size.
