Caption: Cervical cancer. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of an axial section through the lower abdomen of a woman, showing cancer of the cervix. At left and right are the white thigh bones which articulate with the pelvis. Central to this is the bladder (dark blue, upper centre) with the tumour seen below it (light blue). Cancer of the cervix may invade the body of the uterus, which appears to have happened here. Below the cancerous tumour is the rectum (dark circle) and pubic bone (white). Treatment may involve surgery or radio- therapy. CT scanning uses X-rays to create "slice" images through the human body.
