Atrophy of the uterus lining. Section through a gross specimen of a uterus in which the glandular lining (endometrium) has begun to break down or atrophy, forming cysts. Endometrial atrophy is a normal part of the aging process after menopause. It is not a serious condition, but can cause bleeding. All bleeding after the menopause should be investigated to check for cancer of the uterus.
