Caption: Uterine wart. Light micrograph of a section through a condyloma (wart-like growth, brown) on the internal surface of the cervix (neck of the uterus). The normal tissue (pink) and epithelium (brown, bottom right) are seen. The abnormal wart- like growth is at centre and left. Some sorts of condyloma are caused by viruses or bacterial infections like syphilis. They are normally found on the skin around the urogenital region, and can be sexually-transmitted. External treatment is with the use of podophyllin or trichloracetic acid. Van Gieson stain. Magnification: x170 at 6x7cm size.
