Caption: Uterine tumour. Surgery to remove a large fibroma of the uterus. The bulk of the tumour is within the uterus (centre), but a portion (upper left) has erupted from the uterus, and is referred to as a pedunculated tumour (one having a stalk). A fibroma is a benign tumour of connective tissue. Most do not require treatment, but some can cause bleeding, pain and other disorders. Large fibromas may need to be surgically removed.
