Caption: Brain, historical anatomical artwork. This caudal (lower) view of the brain (with the front at top) has been partially dissected to show some of the internal structures. The two large lobes (lower) is the cerebellum, and lying above and between the lobes are the pons and medulla, parts of the hindbrain leading into the spinal cord. The cross- shaped structure in the centre is the corpus callosum, which links the two brain hemispheres. The two temporal lobes are seen at left and right. This illustration is taken from the 19th century French textbook The Atlas of Human Anatomy and Surgery by J. M. Bourgery and N. H. Jacob.
