Caption: Female abdomen. Historical artwork of the internal anatomy of a female abdomen, shown by a vertical slice seen from the side. The front of the body is at right. The bones (vertebrae) of the spine (down centre) lie between the back muscles (left) and the abdominal organs (right). These organs include the large and small intestines, pancreas, stomach, liver and spleen. At the base of the abdomen are three orifices exiting the body from reproductive, digestive and urinary tract organs. From left: the anus is the exit of the rectum; the vagina is the exit from the uterus; and the urethra is the exit from the bladder. To the left of the rectum is the coccyx (the end of the spine). To the right of the bladder is the pubic bone.
