Birth presentations. Historical artwork of an assortment of possible presentations of the baby prior to birth. The baby should normally rest head down in the uterus. Any other presentation may lead to birth complications. Before sterile surgery and modern obstetric techniques, birth complications often proved fatal for both the baby and the mother. This illustration is taken from Physica Curiosa, by Gaspar Schott, published in 1662.
