Caption: Alcoholism. French engraving from the 1770s of two alcoholics. One has drunk too much and is vomiting into a bowl as his companion holds onto his wig to stop it from falling into the bowl as well. Underlying this caricature of alcoholism is the seriousness of this disease. Alcohol is an addictive substance which can cause irreversible damage to the heart, liver, brain and nervous system.
