Caption: Lion-faced man. Historical artwork of "Lionel the lion-faced man" (Stephan Bibrowski, born in Poland in 1890), aged 17. He was covered in long, tawny hair, possibly as a result of the genetic condition congenital generalized hypertrichosis, which is now known to be due to a spontaneous or inherited mutation in a single gene. He toured Europe and America as a circus performer. German illustration, 1909.
