Caption: Penicillin use, second world war poster. This poster was used from 1941 to 1944 as part of the American war effort. Although discovered in 1928 in the UK, penicillin was not mass-produced until 1944, when the USA produced 2.3 million doses in time for the Normandy invasion. Penicillin significantly reduced the number of deaths caused by infected wounds among Allied forces.
