Caption: Historical orthodontic chin retractor with its original packaging. This metal plate was worn to try and correct a pronounced lower jaw. It was worn on the chin in conjunction with a silk hair net. It dates from around 1900 and was designed by the American dentist Edward Angle (1855-1910). To see an image of the hair net see N850/039.
