Caption: Four Horsemen of the apocalypse, historical artwork (1498) by the German artist Albrecht Durer (1471-1528). The Four Horsemen are described by St John in the Book of Revelation, the last book of the bible. The riders, from right to left, represent: conquest (bow and arrow), war (sword), famine (scales) and death. The appearance of the horsemen, in Christian belief, will signify the end of the world.
