The spine (running from centre top to centre) is composed of blocks of bone (vertebrae, orange) between intervertebral discs (white) that act as cushions and provide flexibility. In the chest are the ribs, which encase and protect the lungs. The upper arm bone is the humerus, it articulates with the forearm bones, the radius (right) and ulna (left) at the elbow. At bottom right is the thigh bone (femur), which articulates with the pelvis at the hip joint.
