Caption: Stoma cell. False-colour scanning electron micrograph of a stoma cell on the leaf of a Tradescantia plant. Stoma cells are pores in the epidermis of a plant, and are involved in transpiration. The stomal cell is bounded by two guard cells (long, thin shapes), one at each end. Stomata are very numerous on the plant epidermis, especially so on the lower surface of leaves. Magnification x360 at 35mm size.
