Caption: Lemon grass leaf. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the leaf of a lemon grass plant (Cymbopogon citratus). Droplets of the aromatic oil (yellow) which gives the grass its name have been exuded from glands in the leaf's waxy epidermis (green). Stomata (lip-like structures) are pores in the epidermis that allow gaseous exchange. A protective spine is at upper centre. Magnification: x550 at 6x7cm size.
