Caption: 3-D reconstruction of the face of a human infant, assembled on a computer from a series of two- dimensional computed tomograph (CT) scans. The contours of the skin surface are featured in this image. Computer processing allows the skin to be rendered transparent, so the underlying muscles and bones may be examined. 3-D reconstructions are used by surgeons in planning & simulating cosmetic or reconstructive surgery.
