Caption: Dystrophin muscle protein. Three-dimensional remodelling using confocal light micrograph images of the muscle protein dystrophin. Green fluorescent dye has been used to highlight the dystrophin layer found in the sarcolemma (a specialised cell membrane) in muscle cells. Dystrophin is an important muscle protein that connects the cytoskeleton (a cell's scaffolding that provides structure and shape) of a muscle fibre to its surroundings. Deficiency of this protein causes muscular dystrophy.
