Caption: Tobacco. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of tobacco from a cigarette. At lower centre and lower right are 2 stomata (oval). These pores, which are predominantly found on the underside of leaves, are the site of gaseous exchange; carbon dioxide enters the plant and oxygen exits. Tobacco leaves are cured, fermented and aged before being packaged into cigarettes. Magnification: x550 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
