Light micrograph of human hyaline cartilage, the most common type of cartilage, which is found in the nose, larynx, tracheal rings & most joints. It is a semi-rigid form of connective tissue, which is capable of withstanding great pressure. Chondroblats (cartilage precursor cells), synthesize & secrete the ground substance and fibrous extracellular material making up cartilage. Secretion isolates one chondroblast from the other & traps them within a cartilagenous matrix. The cells divide to form small clumps as seem here & mature into chondrocytes. Magnification: X50 at 35mm & X 100 at 6X7cm size.
