Caption: Leaf anatomy. Light micrograph of an epidermal peel taken from the surface of a leaf, showing a pattern of epidermal leaf cells and structures, including stomata and their guard cells. The stomata and guard cells are the small rounded structures dotted over the leaf surface, separated by larger, mostly red areas. The epidermal peel was obtained using cellulose acetate paper, and was painted with Indian ink and imaged using transmitted light and colour filters.
