Caption: False-colour arteriograph (angiograph) of the arteries arising from the aortic arch (bottom), the section of the aorta that curves over the heart. Arteriography is the X-ray examination of arteries that have been outlined by prior injection of a radio-opaque contrast medium. The large artery at left is the innominate artery. It quickly branches into the right-side common carotid artery, which supplies the right side of the neck & head, & the right subclavian artery, which supplies the right arm. The vessel in the centre is the left common carotid supplying the corresponding side of the neck & face. The vessel on the right is the left subclavian artery.
