Caption: Subclavian artery. Coloured angiogram (arterio- gram) of a normal subclavian artery branching from the chest and feeding into the arm. The artery is coloured red. Bones appear white, including the shoulder bone (top left), humerus arm bone (top right), and rib bones (lower left). The subclavian artery (one for each side of the body) carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the arm and chest. When it enters the arm it is termed the brachial artery. An angiogram is a procedure that enables blood vessels to be seen clearly on an X- ray following the injection of a contrast medium into the artery. Angiography is used to detect diseases of the blood vessels.
