Caption: Blood vessel. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a blood vessel (pink) in the spinal cord. Blood vessels carry oxygen, nutrients and hormones around the body. The spinal cord contains both white and grey matter. Grey matter consists of neurone (nerve cell) cell bodies, dendrites which carry nerve signals to neurones, and support cells. White matter is made up of the single axons that carry nerve signals away from each neurone. Magnification unknown.
