Caption: colour enhanced angiogram of the frontal view of the arterial anatomy of the abdominal aorta, showing the renal arteries (going to the kidneys) and the division of the aorta into the common iliac arteries (in the pelvis). The hook like structure inside of the aorta at the top of the image is the catheter that is navigated by the doctor to the desired location in the vessels. Then a large volume of dye (contrast agent) is injected through the catheter and many x-rays are taken, showing the blood vessels. This procedure is called an angiography or arteriography.
