Caption: Coronary arteries. Computer artwork showing the coronary arteries, the blood supply to the human heart, superimposed upon a scan image of the human chest. The left and right coronary arteries arise from the aorta, the main blood supplying artery of the body. They then form the orange branches seen here, encircling the heart with blood vessels. The heart is a muscular pump that circulates blood around the body. It consists of four chambers and is divided into a left and right side. The image is superimposed on a CT (computer tomography) scan of the chest, a process that uses X-rays to produce slice images of the body.
