Aortic valve and aorta. View through the aortic valve, looking from the left ventricle into the aorta. The aorta is the artery which provides oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Blood arrives into the left ventricle from the lungs. From here it is squeezed through the aortic valve into the aorta. The aortic valve acts to prevent any blood from then flowing backwards into the heart.
