Heart. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of the heart and its blood vessels. The heart is seen slightly from the side with the main chamber (red) being covered with small blood vessels (coronary arteries, yellow). The structures towards upper right and bottom right are the blood vessels that bring blood to and from the heart. The heart is a hollow muscular organ that pumps blood around the body. The coronary arteries supply the heart muscle itself with oxygenated blood. Blockage of coronaries arteries is a leading cause of heart attacks. CT scanning uses multiple X-ray beams to scan the body from different angles. Computers create a 3D image of the area scanned.
