Caption: False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of human T-lymphocytes. They are white blood cells, & one of the component cell types of the human immune system. T-lymphocytes (T-cells) different- iate in the thymus and then progress to the lymph nodes and spleen. They are distinct from the functionally different B-cells, which are derived from the bone marrow. T-cells are of primary importance in the cell-mediated immune response, but they also influence the actions of B-cells, whose immune role is determined by the antibodies incorporated into B-cell surface membranes. Magnification: x1800 at 35mm size.
