Caption: Headache or epilepsy. Abstract image of a Computed Tomography (CT) scan through a human head, with a bolt of lightning superimposed to depict headache or migraine or epilepsy. The brain has been sliced through (blue) to show a side view of its internal anatomy and its folded structure. The pain of a headache does not itself come from the brain, but from membranes around the brain and from the scalp. The pain is produced by tension in these structures. Migraine is a severe headache, often accompanied by visual disturbances and nausea. Epilepsy is characterised by seizures caused by chaotic electrical activity in the brain. Attacks can be triggered by a variety of factors.
