Caption: Close-up of the flower head of couch grass, Agropyron repens, a common and tenacious garden and arable weed, closely related to cultivated wheat. The flower head is composed of a number of florets, each comprising two white, feathery stigmas (the tips of the female reproductive organs) and three yellow, pollen-bearing anthers (the male reproductive organs). At the base of each floret is an ovule which, after fertilisation, will develop into a seed or grain.
