Caption: False-colour, digitized photograph of a normal human brain, seen from above. The right & left cerebral heispheres are visible. Morphologically, each hemisphere is divided into 4 lobes; frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital. The surface of each cerebral hemisphere, the cerebral cortex, is heavily convoluted; the ridges are called gyri and the clefts sulci. The brain is an enlarged & highly specialised mass of nervous tissue that forms the upper end of the central nervous system. An averaged adult human brain weighs about 1400 g, around 2% of the total body weight. It is continuous below with the spinal cord.
