Caption: Human brain. Computer-enhanced slice through a healthy brain, showing the cerebral hemispheres. The brain is sectioned coronally (vertically) from left to right. At top is the top of the brain, where a cleft divides the two cerebral hemi- spheres. Inner white matter appears pink; outer grey matter is coloured yellow. Extensive folds and convolutions of the cerebrum are seen. The cerebrum is the largest and most developed part of the brain, responsible for conscious thought, memory, sensation and voluntary movement. Inner cavities or ventricles of the brain (at centre, white) are normally fluid-filled. An adult human brain weighs about 1400 grams.
