Caption: Human brain. Computer artwork of a side view of the human brain, coloured to illustrate different regions. The cerebrum is seen divided into four regions: the frontal lobe (red), the temporal lobe (blue); the parietal lobe (orange) and the occipital lobe (green). The two clear areas of the cerebrum are language centres of the brain, where messages are read or heard and understood and sentences composed. Speech is one of the "higher" conscious thought processes that occur in the cerebrum. The cerebellum (yellow) controls the body's involuntary muscular coordination, balance and posture. The brainstem (red, bottom) controls vital functions such as breathing.
